Having searched the forums I can’t see my problem duplicated elsewhere so here goes.

I’m trying to capture 1080 50 HDV via firewire from a Sony HC3 or a HVR25e. Both camera and deck have the downconversion turned off so this is not an i-link issue. I’m running FCP 5.01 on a dual 1.25 G4 (FW800 model). I can capture HDV using the Apple intermediate codec but not with the HDV one. If I try to use that then no video is present in the captured file although audio is there. (I’m aware that this machine won’t show a preview of the HDV video during the capture process). I notice that the ‘name’ field in the capture log window is also greyed out and unaccessable.

I’ve trashed the preferences and reloaded quicktime. Am I looking at an FCP reinstall? If so (as I’m running Studio) can anyone link me to a list of the files I should delete before a custom reinstall?

I can’t capture in iMovie HD either but I can on my 1.25 powerbook.

    Many thanks.

Upgrade your FCP. Early versions of FCP5 didn’t give you preview in capture but that has been fixed and HDV capture has been reliable for a while now.
