  • Monitoring through a Decklink card in 4:2.2?

Posted by Laco Gaal on November 5, 2011 at 6:27 am

I’m just putting together a Davinci rig, and decided to go with a Panny plasma.
Currently I can not afford the Dual HD-SDI board, so I bought the Single HD-SDI board, which seems to only have 4:2:2.

Before this purchase I wanted to buy the Blackmagic HD Extreme 3D+ for 4:4:4 output, but am I safe to say, that now – as my monitor input is limited to 4:2:2 – I can buy a cheaper BMD card? For example the Decklink SDI https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/decklink/models/
I just want to output a nice clean signal (1080p24, or 108025p) to my monitor, so all the other features seem to be irrelevant right now.

Of course later I’d like to upgrade to the 4:4:4 path both side.

Thanks in advance for any help, I’m so excited to put this all together,
    laco

I have listened the “intensity pro” is working ok with resolve 8.1.

does your monitor have sdi in ?

if so then both are 422 and should be fine.

question is how you calibrate your monitor to be accurate.

in tech sense it all should work but if you read config manual it says like this:

“Resolve on a Mac Pro uses dual link DeckLink cards, as the standard hardware for video and audio ingest and playback.”

So there is a small risk factor for you if it will work out 100%.

Somebody can confirm this (if you dig some you probably can find about it from this forum)

thank you all, I found another answer here on creativecow, which is, that
Davinci can work with cheaper BMD cards, but they only test it with the Decklink Extreme.

So if anything goes wrong, keep in mind that Davinci isn’t made to get along with all the Decklink cards:)

    Thanks for the help!

also be prepared as cheaper cards may not work with future updates.

It is as is basis at your own risk.

    I see.

Well this would be a temporary solution only – so I have the money to buy the Calman too right now:)
Anyway – if I understand it right – the BMD extreme supports HD and SD simultaneously, this would be a very nice feature for me, so I really want to upgrade in a few months.
