am working in the field in middle east on a 17inch g4 power book, 2 gb ram running 10.4.11 with fcp 6.0.2. running qt pro 7.3.1

when i playback using digital cinema desktop preview sound runs fine but the video does not progress beyond the first frame. tried everything i can think of. if i pull the canvas full screen the same problem occurs.

problem is not major as all else is functioning fine but…

    any ideas?

Sounds like you need to be using a faster scratch disk to me….

Might also update your QT software… but it may not make much of a difference if the drive just can’t keep up.

A faster Mac might help too… but of course that may not be in the cards. G4’s are just not all that fast, and the CPU combo with the graphics hardware in those machines isn’t very fast either.

Might also help if you post what format you’re working in… DV?

HDV is likely not to playback fullscreen on a G4. dunno, never tried it.

format is dv pal. before i upgraded to fcp 6 the digital cinema preview worked a treat.

i guess you’re right about the need for a faster unit but then i think what i’m asking it to do is not too demanding…

If it’s really critical to troubleshoot it, the “fix” may well be QuickTime 7.4.1.

The other thing that might help is a clean install of your software… (as in erase and install of your startup disk rebuilding it from the ground up…but if it were me, I’d not troubleshoot until you’re done with the current project…
