    Sure,

But putting a mixer in between is probably a good idea. Unless you want to be turning your monitors up and down all the time.

    Because of core audio
if you set your computer’s out audio to your Kona board, the keyboard commands to increase and decrease volume should work.

But then, there is always the Audio mixer in FCP also.

[AJPME] “Can I directly connect a pair of M-audio BX8 reference monitors to my K-Box?”

Yep, but I find it much easier to go through my Mackie 1202 so I can use the volume control on it. Also, I have multiple audio sources running through it (like the Cable TV of course!) so I can just bring up items as I need them.

I’m with you Walter. I know it can be done without a mixer via the OS but I prefer the mixer. There always seems to be more things to listen to in an edit room than just the mac.

A Big Knob would be another option.

    Scot,

You have opened the door to a bunch of Big knob jokes here.

This looks like the best option since I need the features it offers without the need for a full mixer. Can I connect 110ohm digital XLRs for all 8 channels into the Big Knob using 1/4″ adapters? Also, are 110Ohm cables required or will standard 75Ohm cables work?

Especially for fans of “Family Guy.” There’s a whole episode just waiting to be written here now.

Peter: Hey Lois! Check out Quagmire’s Big Knob.

Lois: Oh my, it’s so shiny and round.

Peter: So Quagmire, how many things can you monitor with the Big Knob?

Quagmire: Three Blondes and a Brunette. Diggity Diggity Do!

Cleveland: Oh Quagmire, that’s just naaaasty.

    well,

You shouldn’t really be considering anything but the larger cables with the big knob, as the big knob probably requires larger ohms, for sure.

The big knob likes the 110Ohm cables. let’s face it, if you’re gonna invest in the Big knob, get the most out of it with the best cables that can handle the load coming of the big knob.

    🙂
