December 3, 2005 at 5:24 pmvery simple answer – firewire drives are simply not fast enough to play back 1:1 uncompressed. You need a minimum of 4 SCSI drives to play back 1:1.

December 4, 2005 at 9:33 pmWhere is the FW 800 card installed?
How are you configured? I bet you have a bus conflict with the Mojo. -

December 4, 2005 at 10:51 pmIT’S IN THE 64BIT PCI-X SLOT.
THE MOJO IS ON THE REGULAR FIREWIRE PORT. -

December 5, 2005 at 1:06 amDepending on what motherboard you have, the firewire card has to be in a certain slot. You are probably experiencing a conflict lick MPE stated.

December 5, 2005 at 1:50 amI don’t know where Fred is getting his information, but if you are using the SUPER HI END HP xw8200 (the PC that is not only recommended by AVID, but by Blackmagic, and AJA) – if you stick that FW800 host card in slot 3, 4 or 5 (where I stick external SCSI and SATA cards in addition to the native LSI SCSI host adaptor) – you STILL CANT GET 1:1 TO WORK WITH FW800 on an AVID Xpress Pro or AVID Adrenaline with reliable playback. Even if you went with SATA, you need FOUR SATA drives in RAID 0 to get RELIABLE 1:1 playback – (I have tried with 2, and its not RELIABLE – and 2 SATAs in a FCP MAC G5 config do 10 bit uncompressed SDI just fine – FW800 on FCP G5 will do 1:1 8 bit uncompressed just fine). Don’t be confused by mis-information. There is a big difference between getting 15 seconds of video to play back, and getting a half hour show to play back. FW800 aint’ gonna do 1:1 on an AVID product.

December 5, 2005 at 2:31 amBob,
do they have to be external or can the scsi drives be internal. can you give me some detailed info on what i should exactly do (do they have to be raided, do i need more than one, etc..) thanks alot -

December 5, 2005 at 3:25 pmThe SCSI drives can be internal or external but due to the heat created by a raided SCSI array it is best to use the external option in a proper (cooled) raid box. This will also mean your drives are portable and can be locked away sefely at night.
