Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Moire problem

    Hey guys,

I have some footage that was shot on a Canon 5D and since I have gotten the footage back i have noticed some clips have a bad moire on them. I am editing in ProRes but i guess that really doesn’t matter, since the moire is on the original footage.

I have seen some posts about fixing this in color or even AE, but I was hoping to use something that didn’t use a blur effect. Does anyone know if there are any other tools that can help me get rid of this problem?

    Thanks
    Bryan

Please don’t tell me you are looking at this in the CANVAS in FCP and judging the quality there. You can ONLY judge the image quality on an external HDTV or Broadcast HD monitor. The canvas is the second to LAST place to judge (QT X being the last last).

Yes, I’m looking at it on the canvas, but also exported out my video to QT and viewed it there. I understand that this is not the way to view and Quality check my video files, but the problem i have is that these videos will be living on a website where most people will be viewing them from their computers, just as i am viewing them when i export the files. So do you have anything constructive to add??

    I would appreciate anything

Unfortunately the Canon DSLRs use line skipping and moire is a constant problem depending on content. I have had little problem shooting landscapes but as soon as a looping telegraph wire is in frame there is problem.

Blur is the only technique I am aware of. Philip Bloom has a lot to say at his website about setting up the 5D and he always recommends taking all the sharpness off at the camera and flattening contrast as there are much better ways to add both contrast and sharpening that don’t exacerbate the moire.

That’s what I was thinking. I don’t think there is much i can do outside of using a blur effect. I appreciate your response, if I find anything on the subject i’ll be sure to get back to this post.

    Thanks again

    try this plug:

one would assume if you had better quality, there would be less moire.
