I have animals made out of letters [extrude nurbs] and I need them to be split apart at the beginning and animate into the animal form. I have tried the different explosion options, but these split the letters into shards and I need them to stay whole. I’m guessing mograph is the answer, but I can’t find any good tutorial material. How can I animate the letters without having to keyframe each one? Each animal has around 25 letters.

    Thanks!

Hmm.. That is the essence of what I need to do but I don’t have splines. My project is just extruded nurbs that form a shape.

I would place all of the letters under a cloner and uncheck the “fix clones” box in the cloner’s Object tab. Then assign a random effector to the cloner (just create one while the cloner is selected and it will be assigned automatically). By default the random effector is set to affect position. Jack up the position x, y, and z values until you get the look you’re after. Then animate the effector’s strength slider to create the explosion effect.
