  • Modifying the keyboard shortcuts prefs file? (effect shortcuts)

Posted by Peter O’connell on May 14, 2005 at 4:22 am

Hi I am trying to customize my keyboard shortcuts for AE by changing the prefs file in text edit. Mostly I want to add a few shortcuts for effects I use often. I tried adding

    “Levels” = “(Option+Shift+L)”

to the long alphabetical list near the end of the file and then deleting the menu item that had that shortcut, but alas it doesn’t work. Anyone ever make a shortcut for an effect in AE?

PS. yes I backed up the original prefs file.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the only things you can assign shortcuts to are those that are allready in the txt-file, so there’s no way to add a shortcut to this or that Filter.

I’m sure there are third-party apps that can add custom keys to menu-items. depends on your OS
