Modify clip drop frame timecode
I am trying to change the timecode on several longer clips within Media Composer and I’m running into a strange error.
First, here is the problem: we “crash” captured DVD screener footage with a timecode burn-in to assemble rough cuts. Later we will receive Digibeta source tapes of which I will re-capture at a higher resolution. Since there is no way to capture true timecode with the DVD screener footage, I thought I could simply capture the footage without timecode or with a randomly generated timecode and then go to Modify Clip and change the timecode to match the burn-in window timecode and vola everything matches up.
However, when I modify the timecode about 10 minutes into the DV-rez footage the Video TC changes from drop-frame to non-drop. No matter what I modify I can’t change the TC to stay drop-frame throughout the entire 40 minute clips…
The audio TC stays drop frame, but the video mysteriously changes to non-drop, thus throwing off the TC for the whole video after about 10 minutes into the clip.
What am i doing wrong, and how can i fix this?

Are there several master clips for the one master clips (2GB file limit? This could be throwing it for a loop.

Yes, there are several master OMF files due to the 2 gb limit. I think that’s what was doing it. I copied the troublesome project and media from our MC Adrenaline 2.12 to a PC running MC 3.5. Then I changed the entire clip from non-drop TC to drop TC, then WITHOUT saving (seemed to be the key) I changed clip’s starting timecode.
I was also able to work around the problem by unlinking the clip, then modify clip and remove video track. Then modify clip and add video track, and then relink. Then drop frame, then change TC– a tedious workaround…
That seemed to do the trick. Could it have been a bug in the older version? I can’t explain it. Thanks for your help.
