  • Modifications to Photoshop layers may cause unexpected scaling

Searched around for answers and found this article on the Apple site. The article describes the issue remarkably well. What it doesn’t give is a solution, reasonable workaround, or what to tell my client who is going to go into orbit over this one.

To my horror I have a project that involves changing the text of 100 or so Photoshop text page builds. All of my sequences have edits, backgrounds, and shadows which were added in final cut.

My sincerest apologies if this has been dealt with here. I searched with bunches of different keys and read a lot of unrelated threads.

    Thanks in advance for insight,

[Francis Sheehan] “What it doesn’t give is a solution, reasonable workaround, or what to tell my client who is going to go into orbit over this one. “

    I thought it does?

    Example
In Photoshop, select the layer and select a single pixel in a corner of the image. (i.e., the absolute, upper left-hand corner of the image).
Fill the pixel with a color that will match as closely as possible the background color in your project.
Set the pixel to have 1% opacity.
In the diagonally opposite corner, set another pixel the same way.
Create the rest of the layer as you normally would, or use this as a template.

After a little experimenting I have a workaround for this. This is a lot easier and more accurate than the method described on the Apple site. I changed over 100 text builds in very short order with this method. Its harder to describe than perform.

Make the changes to the photoshop file and save over the original.
Re-Import the photoshop file into the browser.
Change the browser name of the re-imported file to avoid confusion.
(If working with Anamorphic graphics make sure the re-imported graphic has the same dimensions and distortion ie check the anamorphic box in the browser).
Open the nest of the old graphic in the canvas.
Open the nest of the newly imported graphic and tear the sequence tab off and place it in your second monitor.
Drag the newly imported changed layers into the old nest and match the edits and applied filters.
