  • .MOD files converted to mpg2-no audio on import to FCP

I am editing a piece for someone who rented a camera (a Canon Legria FS200 E Kit 3427B001), shot a short piece and sent me the footage (all PAL). The subsequent footage was sent online via zip files and when opened were .MOD files. FCP would not handle these files and so I convert the subsequent files to mpg2 files ( in iSkysoft i media converter). The converted files work fine when opened in quicktime on the computer but as soon as I try to import to FCP I lose all audio. I was up for hours last night trying to trouble shoot this problem. I did try switching to a .mov, but it changes the PAL to NTSC framing and I would much rather work in the footages original formats? Does anyone have any suggestions to my query? Thanks for your time…OBJ

    Hi Andrew,
Probably you have exported your MPEG-2 with MP2 audio.
    FC can not read it.
If I’m not wrong, the MOD files are already MPEG-2. I would recommend you to use MPGStreamclip and convert these files to any of the FC friendly codecs and PCM audio at 48Khz.
    Cheers,
    Rafael

Hey Rafael, Thanks for your quick response…since I posted it I figured the problem out…I ended up exporting a .mov file instead of the mpg2 file in the conversion program, imported to FCP and it works now…last night I figured out that FCP couldn’t handle the mpg2 audio and so was trying ac3 and that wasn’t working either, but all is good now…thanks again-Andrew
