mLogic Rocket -> iMac -> Premiere playback issues?
Hi all. I’m experiencing playback issues in Premiere when engaging a Rocket in an external chassis:
iMac 3.5GHz Intel Core i7
32GB 1600 MHz DDR3
OS 10.9.2
Premiere Pro CCRed Rocket inside mLogic Chassis via Thunderbolt. Drivers and firmware updates all installed.
Media on GRAID 3Tb with plenty of free space, via Thunderbolt
5K r3d media
When the rocket is not in the loop, I can play this media in Premiere fine at 1/8 and often even at 1/4. However, when the rocket is engaged (and Premiere is told to use it via the Clip Source Settings), I can’t playback this media at any setting. I’ve encountered this on a separate edit station with a similar setup, the only difference being one station has a second thunderbolt monitor and the other does not, but the results are identical.
The rocket very clearly adds processing and playback improvement in Red Cine on this same media, so I know it’s working and working well.
So I’m fine working in Premiere with my system without the rocket – but confused as to why the rocket negatively impacts playback instead of helping. Should I conclude that this configuration (iMac, external chassis, Premiere, Thunderbolt 1) is just not workable? Or am I missing something?

I recall there being an issue with the rocket and Premiere for full 5K. I suggest poking around reduser for this particular issue – I don’t have any 5K stuff off hand, but I don’t believe it’s an issue with the card being in the chassis.

Thanks Angelo – I thought of poking around Reduser and the other forums here, but since I can see that the rocket works flawlessly in RedCine I figured it had to be some configuration issue with Premiere that I’m missing.
Anyone else using this same gear setup with different results?
