I’ve been editing shows shot with a single FX-1 camera, capturing the footage twice, once ind dv and once in HDV format. I edit in DV-SD in PPro 2, using the HDV footage for ‘blown-up’ close ups and pan & scan within the DV timeline. Works OK but fairly slow.

Could I use an Intensity Pro card, capturing once as HD 1440 or 1920 in one of BMD’s codecs and edit on an SD timeline, with realtime performance? This would mean snappy editing with the show’s clip scaled down to fit a 4×3 NTSC DV frame (i.e. letterboxed), with occasional bits of the clip scaled back up to as much as 100% for close-ups. (Here I’d add fake letterboxing.)

Do I get a significant performance break using BMD codecs over editing HDV? And can I mix different DV and HDV or HD BMD codecs, if needed, in the same timeline?
