I shot a concert with three cameras: two shooting 16×9 and one 4×3(pal). I thought I’d just chop off the bottom and top and some of the sides of the 4×3 footage and use this angle only when absolutely unavoidable. What’s the best way to do this? (I’ve done multiclip editing only once before- about half a year ago and forgot the most of it and have never mixed 16×9 and 4×3.)

    Thanks,

Probably need to export that camera’s material as anamorphic.

Put it in an anamorphic sequence, Then stretch it to fill the anamorphic area of the picture… (only way this is going to work very well and keep the anamorphic workflow) export, then use the exported file as an angle.

The other thing you could do is the opposite… put the anamorphic material in a 4:3 sequence, and export that as a letterboxed 4:3 image… then letterbox the 4:3 shot material to match. (I’d do it after the multiclip edit is done).

Thanks, Jerry, I’ll try it and see what it looks like. I just used it ‘as is’ in the anamorphic sequence and it’s actually not that bad because the 4×3 cam was used for the establishing shot. The centre of the stage is well lit and off to the sides its much darker any way, so the ‘missing picture’ is not so noticeable.
