Mixed formats tape and tapeless in FCP timeline?
Hi,
I’m a junior editor at a production company but have just started branching out and getting other jobs on the side.
I’ve just received a drive with h264 files from a Canon 550d and a Canon 5d, my first thought was to compress them all of Pro Res.
However she’s just told me that she’s sending over additional footage all of which is shot on MiniDV.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve used any footage from tape and I’ve never ever mixed the two formats.
What is the best way for me to combine these two formats in a FCP timeline?
Any advice would be much appreciated,

Converting the Canon material to ProRes is definitely the right way to go.
With the Mini DV, the best way to handle this is to use a capture card such as the AJA Konas or BMD Decklinks to capture that footage to ProRes as well.
Now is the Mini-DV footage HDV or Standard DV? If it’s Standard DV, then we would up-convert the footage to HD to match the Canon footage while we did in the ingest, again, doing this through the capture card.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to a capture card at all.
They’re currently capturing the tapes with a deck and sending over the drive.Is there another way to convert to Pro Res and (once I find out if the tapes are SD or HD) up res the media?
