Just looking for a little advise on mixing formats in a timeline. I’m shooting on some Canon VIXIA HF S100 and also on a 5d Mark II. I’m transferring from the S100 directly into FCP as Prores. It come in at 29.97 upper field dominance. I’m running the 5d through a compressor droplet into prores 30p. So my question is: what sequence settings should I use 30p or 29.97i? If I go 29.97 interlaced should I be re-compressing the 5d footage into 29.97 interlaced? Or the other way around (all progressive)

This will mostly be for web, but could likely end up on a SD DVD.

    Any advise is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Nicholas,
You can put Progressive footage in an Interlaced sequence without problems, but not the opposite.
Transcode your canon footage to Prores (p30), the Conform this footage to 29’97 (CinemaTools).
Edit in a 29’97 Upper first sequence.
You have also the possibility to work in a 29’97 Progressive sequence, but to do so you need de-interlace the Vixia footage.

Do I have to run the 5d footage through cinema tools? What if I just have compressor set to 29.97 when I transcode to Prores? Thanks for your help.
