    Hi Group

Firstly, if this has been asked before, I apologise for asking it again.

I shot something with a Canon XL1. One tape was shot in anamorphic the other accidently in 4:3. My question is, which should I convert?

    4:3 –> 16:9,
    or 16:9–>4:3?

If I do go with 4:3 –> 16:9, can I keep the DVD menu as 4:3? or would everything have to be 16:9? Or can u mix aspect ratios on a DVD?

    Thanks in advance
    Vic

You can, but I don’t recommend it. Depending on the configuration of the DVD player (which is the real culprit here), it may never switch correctly and your clients will think you messed up. Other than that I’d rather crop the 16:9 horizontally rather then the 4:3 vertically, the reason being you are less prone to incidentally cut of important information and using some simple pan&scan techniques, you will be able to make your cropped 16:9 look like it was meant to be 3:4 in the first place.
