…I have 4 camera shoots from a concert… all HD: 1 1080p, 2 720p AND 1 108060i crane shot …. my concern is the 60i footage….. I’m going to make some tests but want to hear some experts’ opinions about the best recommendations for making a great HD multicamera show… is it best to “render” first the 60i footage to 720 p ??
can I mix all the cameras in a 720p timeline ?? what about downscaling & SD-DVDs making (that also I’m going to need…)

any comments would be greatly appreciated….

    kind regards

How do you plan to deliver the final product?

If it’s only going to DVD then it’s probably fine to work with a 720p timeline. Likewise if you are planning to deliver via the web in 720p.

If, however, you are planning on delivery on Blu-ray, then every 40″+ HD TV made in the last few years is 1080i so you do not want to deliver 720p format because it will be upscaled to 1080i for viewing anyway so you might as well have your 1080i footage look great and work with a 1080i timeline.

Having said that… the footage is only as good as the least common denominator so if the 720p footage looks bad compared to the 1080i you may have no choice but to deliver the whole thing in 720p so as not to draw attention to the lower resolution footage. 🙁
