  • Mix and Match – CS3 Production Premium with PP CS5.5

I have CS3 Production Premium installed. In looking to upgrade, it’s $950 to go with Production Premium 5.5 or $299 for Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 upgrade.

The PP upgrade says it includes On Location, Media Encoder and Encore.

Since those are the programs I mostly mostly use anyway, is there any problems with leaving the rest of the CS3 suite (AE, Photoshop, Illustrator, Soundbooth, and Audition 2.0 from CS2) on the computer and just going with the cheaper upgrade ?

I’m guessing I should still be able to use PS, Illustrator, Soundbooth and Audition 2.0 independently – but thought it might be a good idea to ask first.

    Thanks

    Thanks

You can use older Adobe software alongside newer (I’ve had CS3, 4 and 5 all running on the same machine), but you’ll lose a bit of functionality in newer versions (for instance, Dynamic Link will not function between Premiere CS5.5 and After Effects CS3).

Agreed. Chris is right, and while it is a larger investment, The jumps between CS3 and CS5.5 were substantial for all of Production Premium.

It may be worth considering a complete move…it might result in less headaches down the road.

Been a bit of time since original post, but now have a 64 bit OS machine and year end decision time is here.

I talked to Adobe on line help – they say that CS3 Production Premium Suite can not be used to upgrade to Premier CS5.5 standalone.

I am wondering if anyone has been able to do this ?

As an update, to upgrade to Premier Pro-CS5.5 for $239 + tax (I think maybe only through 12-31 (today)) , you have to have your sn for either Premier v4, v5 or v6, or Premier Pro 1 or 2, or PP-CS2 or PP-CS3 – and it has to be the individual product and not the production suite.

And Premier Pro CS5.5 includes Encore, On Location, Media Encoder.

Seems like a pretty good deal.
