    Hello all,

An associate has mistakenly shot some material intended for a 72060P @ 25fps project with the frequency on the varicam set @59.94.

    I have a FRC and a 1400 deck.

Recording from the deck to the FRC results in stuttery slow down – of course.

    Can I retrieve the material?

I used film tools in Final Cut Pro software to convert footage from 23.98 fps to 25p and it worked out fine. I don’t do this stuff that often so I don’t remember the exact workflow, but I think you should be able to just change the time base of your footage to 25p pretty quickly using this tool.

Try it and let us know if it worked.

From an HD Camera course I attended earlier this year in Bristol, run by BBC, I understood that this is not recoverable – atleast that there was no know conversion that would allow the result to pass BBC HD programming specs. I don’t know the technical reasons why.

You could try asking Alan Roberts over on https://forums.dvdoctor.net/forumdisplay.php?f=35 (HDV and HD forum).
He is a technical consultant who still does work for BBC and knows the Varicam and other HD cameras well.
