missing video
Hi there, my question is with the Video not showing up when I import an AVI file into Vegas9. The audio section of the file plays fine but with no video. All was working just fine until I installed a new Video Card (Asus EN9500GT) so maybe there is something I have missed. I did try reinstalling Vegas but situation remained the same. Would be grateful for any suggestions .. Vorn

Usually missing video or audio indicates that you don’t have the needed codec installed on your computer. Try using a free utility like GSpot to determine what video codec the files use and if GSpot says that the codec is not installed, download a copy from the manufacturer and install it.

It sounds like you are missing a codec. Download gspot and see what codec it is and then find a VFW (Video for Windows) codec that will play that codec. That should fix it.

Thanks for the info guys. I have run Gspot and it is telling me that all is fine regarding Codecs, I have also installed another editing program and the identical file works just fine running in that application with both video and audio acting appropriately ?? so I am at a loss as to why Vegas should only respond to the audio part of the file.

What codec is it? Maybe it’s codec that Vegas can’t edit. Vegas uses the very old Video For Windows (VFW) API. If the other application uses the newer DirectShow API’s this explains why the behavior is different. Unless you have a VFW codec for the file, Vegas won’t be able to edit it.

Thanks John … I downloaded and installed the applicable codec [FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2010-01-03] and now all is working like a charm.
