  • Missing Mpeg Streamclip preset

    Hi Guys,

I’m based in Australia recently used the Canon 5D to film at 1920 by1080 25p.

The preset that I want to use in the framesize window is 1920 by 1080 (Unscaled). I don’t seem to have this preset all I have is 1920 by 1080 (HDTV 1080i) which feels like it’s interlaced?

I don’t believe I can download the latest Canon plugin, because my mac is 10.5.8 and I believe the plugin requires version 10.6.4 or later.

Anyhelp with this would be appreciated I’ve embedded a link to a screenshot of my mpeg streamclip window below.

Ultimately my aim is to convert the 5d files into the most lossless files possible to work with in Final Cut.

    Regards, Hugh

Make sure to type in a frame rate of 23.976 and uncheck the “interlaced scaling” box. Also, hit set audio to 48k.

If those are unchecked, you will be fine. The 1080i is referring to the resolution/frame size and not the interlacing.

    Hey Jeremy,

    thanks for replying so quickly.

Do you know why I am missing the 1920 by 1080 (unscaled) preset in mpeg streamclip?

    Regards, Hugh

He needs to stay with a frame rate 25fps. He’s in Australia (PAL) and correctly shot at 25p.

The older Canon Plugin CE1100X works with OS 10.5 and FCP 6 or 7 the new version needs Snow Leopard (10.6)

Thanks mate for that. I’ll look up that plugin and see if that works. All I want to do is get the footage losslessly into Final Cut Pro. I believe it needs to be converted in pro res?

    No presets in MPGSTReamclip.
Just uncheck “Interlaced Scaling” and export.

Woops, sorry. I read 24p for some reason. I would stay away from log and transfer:

Have you seen that option before?

You should be fine with just the 1920×1080 option.

Ignore what I said about frame rate. I misread your first post. Sorry about that.

I looked up the plugin. I don’t believe that plugin works for any Mac earlier than 10.6…

I can convert the footage using mpeg streamclip comfortably into pro res.

I suppose I am wanting to know if the 1920 by 1080 (hdtv 1080i) option is interlacing the footage. I don’t understand why it gives me top field and bottom field choices rather than field none aswell. It really feels like my footage is being interlaced through this process of conversion?

If you uncheck the reinterlace box, it won’t interlace anything. You will have to make sure that once back in FCP, you set the field dominance to none in the browser.

Perhaps you should check out Grinder. It’s not free, but it’s cheap. Takes the guess work out of it:

    Can work on 10.5.8
