I have to capture from miniDV in PAL. After making the correct input and output selection to PAL Firewire I still receive (Missing) Apple Firewire as video output. Hence when I go to capture there is no video signal. Similar problem while using iMovie.

I did reinstall Quick Time as some suggested in the erlier discussion. It didn’t solve the problem.

I am using FCP Pro HD, Quick Time 7.2, TRV900.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

First trash your preferences. Then give full details of system, computer, drives, how everything’s connected and the procedure you’re using. MAke sure the camera is connected and turned on before ou launch the application. Oh, the version numbers for the application and OS would be useful too.

    All the best,

    Tom,

    I tested it on systems:

    Powermac G3 533
    System MacOS 10.3.9
    Quick Time 7.2.
    FCPHD

    and

    PowerBook G4 Titanium 1GB
    System MacOs 10.4
    Quick Time 7.2
    FCPHD

    sequence preset: DV PAL
    capture preset: DV PAL
    device control preset: firewire PAL
playback output video: (Missing) Apple Firewire PAL

Both had the problem listed earlier.

However, I decided to follow your instructions. At first the problem was as before. I started changing in “Easy Setup” (Show all) different settings, i.e. PAL DV Anamorphic, DV50 PAL, etc. … and back to DV PAL with camera in playback mode and all the sudden Apple Firewire PAL came up without (Missing). I am not sure if it is a flaw with FCP or with Apple Firewire but if one plays long enough with settings by going back and forth it fixes the problem. Reading other people’s posts on how they fixed the similar problem it appears that different things worked for different people, such reinstalling QuickTime.

    Thanks for your advice,

    Sasha

I had to recapture the video and problem reappeared. I am not sure if upgrading to QuickTime Pro will solve the issue or it is a problem with Sony TRV900. If all fails I will have to farm out the project. Really can’t figure out why it worked all the sudden and now it doesn’t with the same settings. All systems were rebooted.

After palying around I managed to capture using DV PAL Anamorphic. I have no idea where the problem is as I can’t replicate the capture the next time. FCP bug?

Not a reproducible bug. Could be hardware problem or a settings problem. You’ve switched between lots of settings, which can easily confuse the FireWire protocol. DV50 is not correct for that camera BTW.

Finally i figured out on how to fix it. With the camera switched on 1) go to Log/Capture and disconnect a firewire cable, 2) reconect the cable and select DV PAL or DV PAL Anamorphic. It seems to work for me. It does seem like a possible problem with Apple Firewire after all. But that trick fixes it.

I have same problem. Firewire works fine with quicktime player I can even record with it and edit on FCP. It shows in the hardware list fine But when I launch FCP 3 it say no PAL firewire detected. Ignore and FCP launches ok. If I try to use any later version FCP other than 3 it crashes after ignoring no firewire detection. I am using Hackintosh 10.5.4 and mobo Gigabyte GA-G33-S2. Can’t get GMA3100 graphics to work only 1024×768 showing. But firewire only not works with FCP otherwise ok. Tried various eqiupment same result no change.
