I’m pulling video from different sources for a project.

One of the source videos is 640X360, the rest of the videos range from 720p to 1920.

t’s a mishmash of a mess, but I’m determined to make it sing…

In my PPCS6 settings, I used the smallest resolution as my sequence settings (640×360) and using scale to frame size to make everything else fit.

My reasoning behind doing this is that it’s easier to scale HD down than to blow SD up.

However, when I’m adding my HD clips in and scaling to frame size, they look blurry.

I’d like to know why that is, and how I can correct it.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi, Alan:

Start by verifying whether the problem is related to the preview settings. First, check that the playback quality is set to 1/1 in the lower right corner of the program monitor. If that does not resolve the issue, export a short test clip at high bitrate.

    Hi Alan,

In Program Monitor window, I believe it will say “Full” rather than “1/1”, but good advice from Ivan, default is usually 1/2 quality.

I should ask how you intend to deliver the video. The lowest common denominator is not always the best choice. For instance, if you’re going to make DVDs, those are 720×480. If you take all your HD clips down to 640×360, and then back up to 720×480, you are further degrading them. In that case, you’d be better off working in a 720×480 sequence and upscale the smaller clips, since they will need to upscale anyway to DVD.

Also, re-reading your post again, you have only ONE of the smaller clips, right? Is that half the total footage, or maybe just 10-20%?? If there is little SD footage compared to HD, you’d likely be better off working at 720p, so at least you have a good quality video to deliver. But again, we need to know the intended delivery. DVD, YouTube, ??

    Thanks
