So, your done with your green screen shoot and you’ve pulled some really tight mattes with the
Keylight (nothing short of a miracle on wheels itself!), but…

Skin tone a little ruddy? Wish you’d put on a little more makeup?
Wish you could have been a little further from the green screen?
Wish you’d pulled that “fill’ a little tighter?

Try this and see if it works as well for you as it does for me:

(This is particularly applicable for men victims, as we usually don’t use a lot of makeup on the men, save for some cornstarch ‘de-shine’ stuff)

    1. Duplicate your ‘subject’ layer – place duplicate ABOVE ‘subject’ layer

    2. Apply HUE/SATURATION plugin to new layer
    Set to COLORIZE: hue +21 / Sat +24 / Lightness 0

    3. Set new layer’s BLEND mode to HUE

You may want to tweak your new layer HUE (to taste), but not much.

This technique has perked a couple of my spots up from “I wish I had” to “I did!”

PS – This should work on DV material, but I have no idea about the edges, as we don’t use DV for chroma screen stuff.

Thanks for this. This is great. Have you considered making this a written tutorial with pictures. i think it would help a lot of people.

Something I should mention is that keylight has some color correction tools hidden deep down in there. I’m curious if you tried those at all to counter the loss of green.

    Best,

    Aharon

By all means we adjust all the knobs, but this is not so much a color correction issue as it is a color enhancement and
    ‘ever-er-out-er’.

I discovered this while compositing two groups of actors, shot at different times. One group had fresh makeup, the other group
had a man with minimal makeup, and boyhowdy was it apparent.

So, I fiddled around with a lotta stuff and found a method that worked!
