Looked on the apple website and it was rather unhelpful. All it says in “Mac computer with an Intel processor”. So do I just go out and buy the cheapest used Intel Mac I can find. Years ago even apple would publish minimum and recommended specifications. I am planning on getting a used first generation dual core Intel mac desktop (probably from eBay).

From what I can gather you have to render the footage before you can use it (I have Sony HDV, Canon DSLR and a Canon camcorder which takes SD cards). I understand this takes a while and obviously the more powerful box the better.

What I cant work out is to what extent are effects/filters/titles rendered in real time during editing.

I am planning on using this to lean FCP for collage, I am on a fairly tight budget.

    All advice greatly appreciated.
