i don’t grab hardly any miniDV, and little HDV, so am quite perplexed at how long it is taking to ingest this footage. I’m using the Sony HVR-V1U for playback via firewire, using the “DV NTSC FireWIre Basic” easy setup, have grabbed quite a bit so far, but on a few of these miniDV tapes (SD, not HDV) the capture will stop (sometimes after what appears to be a half hour or so of uninterrupted success!) and say that it couldn’t capture the ENTIRE preceeding stuff because of a dropped frame. YIKES! So i go back, restart it, using “capture now” and try it again. Invariably it will capture fine the second time around, so it seems the dropped frame is not in the same place…but all that time wasted not really capturing. Any shortcuts to success here? I’m seeing more and more why i like XDCam so much! Any ideas would be appreciated…

    thanks again!

I have always captured DV tapes via FW in “under 10 min.” sections.

That way, if I had any reason to re-capture, it would only be a 10-minute section.
