Mini display out & Final Cut Pro 7 & movie looks.

a long time since ive been here to ask a question but i like to share experience with professionals all over.
My first question is about this new mini display adapter i have purchased from amazon.
money is very tight at the moment and at around £8 it seemed to good to miss.

I was looking to connect this to a spare HDMI LCD monitor next to the mac and use it as a second display, from there i planned to run final cut pro and put the preview window onto that screen in full-screen so i could see what i was doing and colour etc in a much larger format.
I really cant afford any other capture decks etc so I just wanted a way to connect my mac to my TV for a better output for a very low cost.
could you guys tell me if this will work, (I mean ive already gone and ordered the adaptor but if you had any other suggestions for a very low cost way of making a LCD TV a good preview monitor for your edits i would be grateful.
I use Magic Bullet to color correct my shots it is very good but i feel maybe there could be another readily available plug in for Final cut out there that could help with broadcast colours or movie looks, I know people say Color is good with power mattes etc but i like the interface of magic bullet. Simple and effective.
way back when i was using vegas it seems the control over the image was so simple and easy with the inbuilt plugins.
Color Finesse? any good?

If your videos are destined for broadcast the conventional wisdom is that you need an output device from Blackmagic, AJA or Matrox connected via SDI to a color grading monitor such as those made by Flanders Scientific. At that point you are looking at $3500 – $4500US expense minimum. Or you could get a Matrox MX02 Mini which outputs HDMI (consumer SDI?) and hook it up to a good quality plasma or lcd such as the Panasonic Pro monitors. The mini comes with a calibration utility that should get you close to what the colors really look like. Unfortunately a calibrated broadcast reference monitor is what you ultimately need to see the proper colorspace for television work.

I understand that, in terms of having a second monitor until one affords that setup (i have a capture deck setup at university) is that adaptor good enough to use for a larger preview display?
