Microphone for Audio Technica Pro 88w
I currently shoot a web series where we go around to various events and interview people. We are currently using the Audio Technica Pro 88w/r system with a lavalier microphone. (Link here: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-PRO88W-R35-Wireless-Microphone-Camcorder/dp/accessories/B00006I523)
But our reporter would like the ability to use an actual handheld interview microphone with the system. I’ve done a ton of looking for handheld interview microphones, but they are all XLR, but the Audio Technica system is 3.5mm. I know they make conversion cables for this, but I’ve also heard that these don’t actually work for what I need. Could someone point me in the right direction for the best 3.5mm handheld interview microphone for under $100 to use with our wireless system?

What you heard is wrong. The XLR to 3.5 mm cables work just fine but they have to be wired as unbalanced not balanced. I can make you one if you contact me at: audioetc@bellsouth.net.
