I’m trying to understand metasync, but i’m having lots of problems understanding the literature.

How do I use it? Final Draft exports scripts as XML files. I should be able to import the XML files using metasync to trigger closed captioning on line 21.

But I am baffled at where to begin.

    Any insights?

    Thanks

Although MetaSync was designed to try and accelerate the subtitle/close captioning process, it never did get finalized between all the products.

Metasync allows for you to define “interactive” objects to be timed in the timeline and then exported as XML files with reference to to the oringal object, URL, etc.

It is used in some processes such as defining chapters and thumbnail for Avid DVD, etc.

    Hi Michael:
Perhaps you could shed some light on my XML-MetaSync malfunction in AXP with Avid DVD ? When I make chapter and thumbnail references on my editing timeline in AXP, then export as a QT Ref to Avid DVD along with my XML file, I can see my chapter marks in the Avid DVD timeline.

However, when I try to control+drag my chapter points up to my menu template with empty button paynes, I cannot drop the chapter marks onto the buttons, nor do I see my reference thumnails. Also, the act of trying to drag and drop my chapter marks only results in the chapters sliding all over my entire timeline. (??) Why ? I checked with all my manuals, on-line tutorials, and I’m doing everything properly, but it won’t work ! What am I doing wrong ? Please advise.

I see metasync as Avid’s scapegoat for not improving functions that have needed improvement for 10 years.
While we can add a chapter for a DVD today, we still ahve to mixdown everything before making that DVD and all those cool effects inth show we are making the DVD out of have to be done in AE because today’s DVE is still 1995 technology.
usless but somthing else to boast about in their literature.
I’d be fine with true native HDV capabilities and a DVE that is not aliased. Maybe a more modern way of trimming?
Metasync is Avid’s biggest testimony of having priorites waaaay out of wack.
