MetaLAN questions
Hi,
I never paid attention to MetaLan, and perhaps I am misinterpreting info that is being told to me right now on the AJA forum – but –is it true that using Metalan, and conventional Gig E interconnect, I can have multiple MAC OS-X workstations feed off of a single MAC Pro server (with a large fast drive array), and get about 80mb/sec from each client to the server drive array ? All of this, using an off the shelf Gig E switch ? Is this accurate information, or am I making up a fantasy story here ?

Hi Bernard –
I have re-read your post to me several threads below. For MetaLan, does the server need to be a true server (like Apple XServe running OS-X server), or can it just be dedicated workstation (like a MAC Pro) with the drive arrays attached to it, so it can feed the other workstations in the group ?I will also contact you via phone, and see you at NAB.

Hi Bob,
A regular Mac Pro will be just fine. There is no need for a Server workstation.
