Merging Timelines & (Only Select) Media Files between 2 Computers?
I have a client who has her own FCP editing system on which she captures a ton of footage and base edits her projects. I then copy the project & take it back to my office via the “Media Manager” system, which effectively gives me the timeline, her edits (should I need to tweak them) and all used footage files. I will be adding B-ROLL and graphics.
MY QUESTION:
Once I’m done sprucing it up I need to get it back to her system and “Merge” my additions I’ve made to the project with her existing “Master” Project file. Is there a built-in command or system that does this similar to the “Manage Media” option?Or is there a system I need to have where I open both projects and drag over the new timeline and other elements? (I’m really hoping to avoid doing this as we are dealing with a lot of files and additions.)
If I’m unclear on anything please ask. We’re both on MacOSX platforms, running the newset version of FCP.

If the new timeline is only 1 layer of video, you can export an EDL, import it into your client’s system & re-link the clips. Of course, this assumes that your reel names & file names conform to the rules of the EDL format you choose, and it won’t include a lot of filters & transitions.
You can also export an XML of the new timeline, and re-link to that. The XML can handle multiple layers, and all transitions & filters that are available on the target Mac.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve heard very little about the XML format. After a quick bit of research, what are the major differences in opening an XML file (created on my computer) on hers than opening the actual project file? It seems to me to be about the same for this purpose. No?
