Merge clips
Any way to merge clips in the FCP 7 way? I have a set of camera and WAV files that will not properly synchronize. Don’t have PluralEyes on this machine. Do have clapsticks.
For the moment, I’m opening the video clip in its own timeline and adding the WAV as a connected clip based on the clap. Then muting the camera’s audio track. Works, but seems more cumbersome than merging. Plus, there’s no option to select for how to merge other than doing it manually. Ideas?

Just thought I’d mention that I have been able to get FCPX to sync clips (that wouldn’t sync properly otherwise) by letting FCPX analyze the camera audio for both loudness and background noise. Even if the analyzed result sounded terrible to me, FCPX could sync the clips, then I just turn off the loudness and background noise audio enhancements.

Thanks. I’ll at least give that a try in the AM. The clips started to sync on the first one and then just wouldn’t. Checked for any background processes but nothing was impeding the sync. I still think a proper merge lips function would be a useful feature.

Have you tried any of the “assisted sync” techniques that X supports? Adding an initial marker to each part of an audio and video sync pair – even a very gross one, can give X a starting point and “focus” it on not having to look at every sample of every clip.
