We are testing Premiere Pro CS5 extensively in one of our 2 x 3 GHz Mac Pro machines in anticipating switching from the FCP platform. This machine has the older nVidia 8800GT 512mb card.

    1. Are we going to see significant increases in Premiere by switching to a Mercury Playback supported nVidia card like the GTX285?

    2. Any experience with the GTX285 compared to the 8800GT for other things like After Effects, Motion, etc? It’s so hard to find benchmarks that aren’t gaming related….

    3. Is an older GTX285 still a better option in the Adobe Mercury ecosystem vs the newer AMD 5870?

Very new to the Premiere world — opened the program for the first time since 1999 or so last week — so sorry if this has been hashed out already!

See this page for details of CUDA and the Mercury Playback Engine. It answers your questions.
