    Hello,

I have been looking all over the place and done a million things to solve my issue but I have found nothing…

I just bought a new dell computer.
    Intel i7 CPU 12gigs ram windows 7
    1 gig video card…
    the whole enchilada.
    Should be fast right? NOT!

I bought this computer just to do my video productions. It’s what I do for a living and I need a fast reliable computer. Well, some how my renders take for ever. I follow lots of advice from other people but I guess no one else had to deal with the same situation.

Some times when I am rendering it crashes and tells me I am out of memory!!!
It never happened before with my old Compaq Pentium D 2 gigs of ram.

Is there a hidden setting in vegas 9 or may be windows 7 is some how not utilizing all of my computers capacity?

Any help would be eternally appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Going Bananas…

You told us about your hardware but not your software. Are you using Windows 7 64-bit? Are you using Vegas Pro 64-bit? What codec does your source files use? What project settings are you using? What rendering format are you using? All of these will affect render times.

I bought a new computer quad core with 12 gigs of ram as well so I could preview the M2ts files and had the exact same problem. Tried everything and finally returned the computer and they discovered one of my sticks of RAM was bad. Worked basically for everything else but chocked when I rendered. Not saying this is your problem but it’s a possibility.

I’ve discovered that when I have certain plug-ins (Mercalli)applied to clips in 32 bit Vegas, my computer blue screens after loading that project in 64 bit. Wish the plug-in companies would update.

Checked the Mem sticks… they are fine and windows 7 says I got 12 gigs.
But thanks anyway. I am starting to think this is a Vegas problem when running windows 7.

    You are right…
    I am sorry!

    I am using Windows 7 64 bit.

I am using Vegas but I am running at 32 bit so I can use my plug ins.

I am using MTS files from my Panasonic HMC150 and I only render two ways.

One – MP2 files to burn on DVD for TV viewing &
Two – quick time so I can give the files to an editor that uses FCP

    Any ideas?

You didn’t say what your project settings are. I assume that they match you footage (they should). If they don’t they could affect render times.

Of course AVCHD is the worst format to be using because it’s the most CPU intensive to encode/decode. On top of that, Vegas is probably not optimized for Panasonic’s AVCCAM format so that could be another factor in slow rendering times.

Since you’re using the 32-bit version of Vegas it doesn’t matter that you have 12GB of memory. Vegas will only see 2GB so this could be causing the out of memory errors. You might want to set your rendering threads to 2 and see if that helps with the out of memory problems.

Thanks… I will switch to the 64bit as soon as I get annoyed enough about it.

I was having the same issue and tried everything I read on the web.

I was able to reslove it by changing the Vegas temp folder to one of my other hard drives. A different physical drive other than my “C” drive.

I also set the program priority in Device Manager for Vegas to High. I was finally able to render my video.

Not sure which one did the trick, but it works now. 2 hour HD video with well over 100 GB of source video, music, etc. DONE!!
