Media suddenly appears as green blocks on timeline
Hi all,
A project that I’ve been working on that is constructed from mp4 files has suddenly developed a problem: the video portion of the mp4s appear as solid green blocks on the timeline, with no video being processed from them (the audio is fine).
When last I worked on the project before Christmas, there were no problems at all with it.
Any ideas about what this sudden development means?

Have you updated Vegas after you worked on them before Christmas?

Recent Vegas builds seems to have issues with various mp4 video format.

I don’t believe I’ve updated Vegas since I last worked on this, but I’m not completely sure. I am using Build 770.
I might try running the installer again and see if things improve.

Well, so much for that. I uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas, and there’s no change.

OK, I just read about, and implemented, a solution that worked. But I really don’t know why it should have worked. But it did.
The recommendation was to discover which plug-in was being leveraged by Vegas for decoding the mp4 file. I located the plug-in under the following path:
C:Program FilesSonyVegas Pro 12.0FileIO Plug-Inscompoundplug
The recommendation was to exit Vegas and change the name of the plug-in folder (in this case, “compoundplug”). I simply put an “X” at the end of the name (although the changed name doesn’t specifically matter).
I then re-launched Vegas, and reimported my mp4 file. It worked…the file was decoded properly. The file properties now indicate a redirection to the following path:
C:Program FilesSonyVegas Pro 12.0FileIO Plug-Insmcmp4plug2
So…was Vegas falling back on a generic, incorrect plug-in? Has it now been forced to use the correct mp4 plug-in?
I find all of this very odd, especially when these same mp4 files worked fine before the holidays.

I have the exact same problem with DVD Architect Pro 6. Tried Carl’s fix – but no cigar 🙁

It appears that the project does not render properly. This is a 2.5 hour 3D footage with chapters. I am trying to create 1280×720 60p AVC/MVC for DVDA Pro 6. I rendered the entire video with chapter markers but it does not render correctly and has several green blocks. Rendered a very small segment (360MB) and works fine. Rendered less than half of the entire footage (about 6GB) and still does not render. Is there any fileshize limitation?

Ive never liked that fix or like recommending it.
I still use build 714 of Vegas, which is rock solid and don’t

I don’t particularly like it either, but as an ad hoc solution it seems to be the only thing that works until the next build arrives.
Do you recall when Build 770 was released?

I was able to proceed by renaming the following folder
C:Program FilesSonyVegas Pro 12.0FileIO Plug-Insmcmp4plug2 to mcmp4plug2X
Looks like there is an issue with the application using the MainConcept codec instead of Sony MVC
