Media start time 00:00:00:00 after capture
I typed in my in and out points in log and capture from a VHS rough cut that my producer gave (Yeah his still does thing old school, not that there’s anything wrong with that).
I got everything typed in and then did a batch capture and after the capture was done the media start time on each clip was 00:00:00:00.
This makes his offline with BITC kind of useless because when I load the clip into the viewer and enter in the TC, FCP can’t find the in point
Fotunately there was an Auto Save of my project before any of the clips got digitized so the true in and out points are there.
I’m going to re-capture, but why did this happen and what to do if it happens again?

VHS doesn’t have TC, as far as I know. So you can’t capture it with TC. There is no VITC or LTC possible with VHS. For TC, we always had to record it on CH1 of the audio for the sound guy.

What version of FCP?
..this was a bug reported awhile back, but has since been remedied, I believe.

Shane, I think the vhs was for reference…he probably captured from beta or DV using the BITC he saw on the VHS…but maybe I am wrong.

Sorry guys; I forgot to mention the original footage is Mini DV.
John was right the VHS was a refference.I’m using FCPS2 or 6.0 however you want to look at it.
All was fine on the recapture, but I can’t figure out what happened the first time and I hate not knowing.
Any ideas would be appreaciated for future reffence.

Sorry Steve…I re-read the post and I read it wrong.
I figured that you knew that about VHS…I guess I was really confused.
That is an odd thing…perhaps your capture device was set to UNCONTROLLED DEVICE?

No it wasn’t, because it was controlling the Mini DVD camera (a Sony SC_D543 consumer unit BTW)
It is a strange thing, I’ve never run acrossit before either.
I did know about the VHS, and when I was a sound guy I had the same thing done for me. ( we always had to record it on CH1 of the audio for the sound guy)

people were having this problem with Quicktime 7.1.3 and various versions of FCP 5.x.
You might want to make sure you are updated to 7.1.6

First of all I do have QT 7.1.6 the FCPS2 installer would not install without updating to it first.
Secondly, I read that post and there did not seem to be a decisive conclusion.
I don’t remember if I lost my Reel aname like some of the other said they did, but I do know that a one point i switched my “on timecode break” preferences to warn after from make new clip because I was addind pad to the in ad out pint that the VHS had and I guess 8 sec was to much post roll for one clip.

Can you refer to the Auto-Save version and re-enter the codes using the Modify/Timecode command….or are there hundreds of clips, which would make this a huge pain in the ass?

I didn’t try that.
There are 24 clips so I could have done it, but as I said earlier (mau=ybe you missed it).
The re-dig worked fine.At this point I would just like to know what happened, but it seems there is no clear cut answer.
