    hey ther,e

does anyone out there have any good media mangement tips for premiere pro cs4?

I’m moving projects frequently, i.e. my clients set up the project and then hand me their drives and sessions to edit, but even if I keep the same drive letter when I plug their drives into my system, the media can become unlinked and then it’s just an endless nightmare relinking stuff.

All the projects are shot on P2 DVCPROHD, so everything is originating from P2 folders organised by day and cameraman, I’ve moved at least one project and I had to go through a ridiculous amoutnof manual relinking, and I have 5 more of these to do, so anyone who is experienced with a similar workflow who has any good advice, feel free to pitch in.

I wish PP_CS4 media relinking worked like Avids, where it’ll just search the drives and relink intelligently (well.. for the most part) instead of expecting me to manually go hunting for the files which is just insane. I’m editing documentaries with just SH**LOADS of footage, so days can be spent relinking which I feel is just so unnecessary as other NLE’s just don’t punish me like this…

    thanks in advance..

    Hi There…

    I have to agree…

File based workflows based around MXF are a difficult to make portable….

When Premiere asks for a file that is missing and you relink, that one path becomes a valid location for media….so for every other clip that Premier looks for, it will check thru a list of previously valid paths to link the media….The problem with MXF native media seems to be every clip ends up having it’s own path….which means that every clip needs to be relinked individually.

I’m wondering if there is some MXF utility that will actually move the media assets to a common directory….prior to importing them into for the first time….that way when you move the project you’d have substantially less paths to validate for relink….

I seem to recall this MIGHT help: www(dot)imagineproducts(dot)com(slash)hdlog(dot)htm

It can allow multiple P2 cards to be combined into one P2 directory…

They have a demo….can you give it a try and report back????

I’d be interested to see if it helps….

    Let us know….
