    Hey,
this might be a dumb question, but here goes. I need to know how to manage my media better. Within my bins/finding clips/ running searches, etc.

like if I am looking for something by name, I have to scroll down and search them individually. I need to save time and be able to control clips and files between projects and such.

    I have XPress pro 5.2.1

Do I need additional software or what?

I’m not sure what your question is…

If your are looking to sort alphabetically? (control / command E will sort whatever column you have active.

Are you using one bin or multiple bins? I have a bin for selects (old MC term), for sequences, FX, audio – if I’m using alot of footage from different tapes, I’ll have bins named for each of my tape names.

Have you tried playing with superbins?

I meant that i wanted a tool that would allow me to type a clip name and it would search for and/or find the clip. There was a tool like that on another NLE system that I used. I was looking for something comparable on Avid.

    any thoughts?

It sounds like you are piling everything into 1 bin? I’d just create a bin for each type of media – I’m not aware of a standalone program intended to search within Avid.

There are 2 things I know of that you can try. Hopefully they are what you are looking for.

One is, you can use the “Custom Sift” function in the Bin menu to just show clips that have a certain word in the name or other specification that you tell it to search for.

Or you can open your “Media Tool” in your tool menu and use the “Media Relatives” function in the Bin menu to locate specific media on your drives or, visa versa, what project a specific clip of media is related to.
