So I have a long pal clip that’s been cut into feature documentary. I’ve done Copy and Recompress and I get the same result. I want to break it down in to multiple clips with handles so each shot can be dealt with individually going forward.

Final Cut makes the new clips (XXX-1)-(xxx-135) but in the new project it creates on reconnects the 1st ten and then reconnects to the original for the rest. How do I media manage this clip so that it reconnects to the managed media?

That hard drive is formatted improperly for use as a media drive for FCP. It is formatted FAT32, which has a file size limit of 4GB (note that the clips xxx-1, xxx-2 all are about 4GB)…can that means that a single file gets broken up into multiple parts…can that can be VERY problematic, as you see.

What you need to do is format the drive as MacOS Extended…using the Disk Utility in the UTILITIES folder.
