  • Media imported without video stream, blacked-out clips, crashes, freezes

What the hell is up with Version 12? I’ve been using SVP for 6 years now, and nothing prepared me for this. I have a project that consists of video clips from a GoPro, a Drift HD, and a Nikon Coolpix. I’m running Windows 7 on a 64-bit Intel i7 2.8GHz system with 8GB of RAM, all updated drivers.

Sometimes SVP will lock up when I’m doing something trivial. Sometimes it will lock up when I import a new media file. Sometimes it will crash when I’m doing something trivial. Sometimes it will import a video clip and say that there is no video stream associated with it. Sometimes it will flicker the trimmer preview and then go to black. Sometimes it makes all the video clips from one of the cameras go to black. Sometimes I can get one of the black clips to work again by adjusting the volume control on the task bar.

I’ve tried setting the project properties to match one of the source files. I’ve tried setting the video properties to something lower resolution.

During the freezes, it appears that a process called FileIOSurrogate is using 1.2GB of RAM and about 11% of CPU. It stays at that level until I finally have to end the process if I want my computer back.

After wasting probably 50% of my time reloading projects over and over and over after incessant crashes, I finally reached a dead end where I can no longer do anything with this project that is already overdue. The blacked-out clips are preventing me from moving forward, and I am ready to throttle someone at Sony.

Any ideas before I contact my lawyer?

(BTW, I know ALL about the problems of software development. I’ve been in the software business since 1975, so don’t go there. This is the most infuriating and buggy software I have ever encountered in my life)

Additional info: It was doing this before I upgraded to Build 563, and it’s still doing it. I just opened a project I did last week, and every single one of the video clips showed “media offline” and were opened as audio clips instead of video/audio. These were shot with the Coolpix and worked just fine last week. Today they are useless.
