How do I restore the Media Generator tab to the elements window? (Wasn’t sure what that area was to be called…the area with the VIdeoFX/Project Media/Explorer/Transitions tabs.) Are there any other tabs that can be added that might be useful?

Menu item View | Media Generators (Alt+9)

It’s referred to as the Docking Area in all of the documentation.

Anything under the View menu can be added. Personally, I find the Video Scopes (Ctrl+Atl+2), Media Manager (Ctrl+Alt+4), and Mixing Console (Ctrl+Alt+6) to be rather useful.

That got the Media Generator pane to open, but I’m still not sure how to keep it in that area with the tabs. I have Vegas 8 Platinum installed on 2 different machines, and one has the Media Generator tab down there. I know it can be done, but how?

Did you dock it in the docking area and it did not stay? or you don’t know how to dock it? If it’s the latter, drag it over the docking area by the six small dots in the upper left corner of the window.

When I click on the 6 dots to move it, it lets me move it just fine. If I drop in in the lower half of the Vegas window, it just stays as its own pane. It will not manifest itself as a tabbed item with the Video FX, Transitions, etc. I just want it to be there, with a tab for quick access.

Try dropping it over the dotted edge of another docked window. Just move your mouse around while dragging the window and it will change to show you where it can be docked. You just have to learn where by doing it. Don’t give up.

Great! …and now you have a good feel for how to dock and undock windows. 😉
