  • Media encoder H264 export with ‘Export Audio’ off, gives black video

Posted by Greg Jackson on February 25, 2019 at 5:30 pm

I’m trying to export a Premiere CS6 Sequence to an H.264 via Media Encoder.
Since audio is not important, I unchecked “Export Audio” in the export settings.

The resulting video plays ok in Premiere but just shows black in VLC/quicktime/Windows Media Player.
As soon as I check “Export Audio” the resulting video plays fine in VLC/quicktime/WMP.

Thinking this might be a Premiere issue, I tried importing a DnxHD video file directly into Media encoder to re-encode it to H264 with no audio and got the same black video.

Could someone help me understand why this is happening?

    Other export settings:
    1920×1080 / 30fps / Square pixels / NTSC / profile: Main / Level: 4.2 / CBR: 5Mbps / Multiplexer: MP4

    Many thanks
