It would be nice to be able to select the “Pictures” folder under the User Name at the OS level – or any folder on any drive for that matter – rather than be locked in to iPhoto. . I work with Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom – not Aperture or iPhoto.

Also, colour coding of bins and sequences from FCP7 is gone with that workflow model, replaced by key words. The icons in the Event Browser > List View are quite tiny at 1920 X 1080 screen resolution. It would be visually easier to spot stills in the list of clips. Of course, there is always the Filmstrips View. I suppose once I’m proficient in the program and learn to set up Collections for photos and stills like logo screens, all will be well. But I would still like that visual cue in List View.

    I just found the answer.

At the bottom left of the Events Library, click on the twirl down triangle to the right and select Group Clips By > File Type.

Or select from the menu bar View > Event Browser > Group Clips By > File Type. I now have the Quicktime Movie files at the top, and the JPEG files at the bottom – with labels for the groups.

Now that I think of it, perhaps the colour labels might detract from the elegant grey user interface.

You can now setup a smart collection if you want…I think. Not in front of FCPx machine.

I know you can do audio or video or audio and video. Perhaps you can use .jpeg as a qualifier.

Yes as Jeremy mentioned above you can create a smart collection which just looks at your stills.

    Create a smart collection

Double click the name to bring up the smart collection filter box

Click on the plus icon at top right and choose media type.

In the filter line that appears, change “video and audio” to “stills”

    Cheers,

    Brendan
