I am starting a 2 week demo of Media 100 and intend to use it to edit Canon 7D 1080P 29.97 files. I know I have to transcode them but there is virtually no documentation online or with the software that suggests what settings to use. Most codecs I try result in various error messages and crashes. I have had partial success bringing one clip in at the Apple ProRes 422 setting (what is the difference between the 4 Apple Pro Res setting options??) but the light levels in the clip get significantly darker than the raw clip is when played in Quicktime. Also the 2nd (transcoded) clip file becomes very large, growing from 569mb to 1.72 GB not including the audio tracks. Has anyone successfully used Media 100 as an editing system for 5D or 7D footage? I am amazed at the lack of documentation on this. I have used M100 for years and know & love its interface. I’m just wondering if it’s practical to work with 7D footage in M100. If the footage needs to be converted first, what should it be converted to? BTW, I’m not so much looking for speculative suggestions as I am from people who have actually had success with 7D clips.

PS: What does it mean in the Import box by, “Import Media to the Media Standard and Codec”?

    Hi, Jay.

I went through something similar with footage I shot on my Canon EOS 60D. I tried to document and post my process for getting the footage successfully into M-100.

I didn’t notice a difference between the raw and imported shots. Of course, none of it was production quality stuff with critical parameters.

If no one else has additional info to offer, I’m available to help (with my 60D) if needed.

    Ben

Thank you Ben. You did a lot of experimenting that I can benefit from. I’ll try your path tomorrow. I really want this to work.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
