me again – rendering problem not solved
Yesterday I posted a request for help concerning a 45 min project that kept freezing up at 86%. After reviewing my options, I assumed that I must have needed more space on my drive so freed up 17 gigs and moved the temp file to more suitable location. I rendered last night before I went to sleep, and I woke up to my least favorite number 86%. I have since determined that at the 40:01 mark my rendering ceases and the machine freezes. At this point I have a transition (add noise – I think) and then a number of photoshop files that are lined up in rapid succesion (they are of me with my mouth magically opening and closing). My system is a dinosaur by today’s standards but it has yet to let me down (until now). Anyway, is it possible that the photoshop files are too much for my system? If the file is ‘bad’ is it as simple as removing those clips? My time is running out and this project takes 6+ hours to render so making one change then waiting 6 hours is not really the best use of my time. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, try to pre-render just that one small section (or render that section to DV-AVI and replace the current footage with the new render on the timeline). BTW, what format are you rendering to?

mpeg-2, this is going to DVD once I finish, I’ve tried pre-rendering (back a few days a go) so that I could make sure it looked alright. Didn’t have any problems then. Are you suggesting that I render just the photoshop section then insert it as a separate file in the timeline? (just checking)
BTW is mpeg-2 the best option (quality etc) for creating DVD’s?

Ok, then render that small section to DV-AVI or uncompressed AVI (depending on how long of a sequence it is), replace with the sequence with that new AVI clip, and then go to MPEG2 without the “bad” sequence on the timeline.

Yes, DVD is MPEG2. I have more info about that in Vol 1 #7 and Vol 4 #1 (as well as some others) issues of my newsletters. How long is this video? Vol 1 #7 has a bitrate chart so you can make sure the rendered file is small enough for the DVD.

The movie is only 46 min long so I don’t see that being a problem. I’ll let you know how I made out. Thanks alot for your help Edward.
