MC6 Sluggish/Lag while Trimming
I posted this on the AVID community forum but didn’t get any responses…
I’m having an issue with MC6 being quite sluggish while in trim mode and moving shots in both segment modes.
In trim mode – adjusting frames using the keyboard commands for trim 1 frame or 10 frames.
Also in either segment mode sliding shots using the same key commands.
Basically each command takes 1/2 a second or so to respond. For example if i hit the , 5 times to trim 5 frames it would take 2-4 seconds for this to happen.
This is not a problem using it in software only mode, works perfectly there, only a problem when outputting – have tried a BM Decklink Extreme and an AJA Kona 3.
Have tried this on 3 separate computers, 2 with the same specs, 1 vastly different. See below…

I know a couple of people have mentioned having lag/sluggishness isues with the Matrox MXO mini but there hasn’t been any mention of issues with BM or Kona cards. Is no-one having this issue or do they just put up with the delay?

My sense is that MC 6.x broke something with their “open architecture.” Given that there are now multiple reports of sluggish behavior using products from different vendors, I think the problem lies with Avid. MC 5.x was smooth as butter with the Matrox MXO2 Mini. It’s now almost unusable. The new drivers from Matrox (for PC only, so far) supposedly improve the situation, but not much.
Hopefully Avid will figure this out sooner than later, because I can’t afford to buy a Nitris box.

Hi Shane, have tried HD and SD, prores via AMA and imported (to both ProRes MXF and DNxHD), all PAL 25p and 50i.
Footage is Red One, Red Epic, Alexa, 5D and even SD footage from Digi Beta.
All has the same issues.

What hard drive (RAID) are you working from? You need a fast RAID setup.

Hi Steve, 56TB Promise Raid. Runs at 900MB/s so is definitely not the issue. Playback is perfect, it is literally just the issues i mentioned in my original post.
Surely there are others using third party i/o out there, BM or Kona? A simple yes i have these issues or no i don’t would be great to hear.

were you able to find an answer to your problem?
i’m running a test version of MC 6 on a Mac Pro and i’m experiencing similar sluggishness with all kinds of commands – play, playhead position, etc., while i have no issues with playback.

Nope, unfortunately not. I’ve been told second hand that it’s a known issue to AVID and will be fixed in 6.0.2 but i’m still astonished that no one else is talking about this.
