MC5 on MB Pro now that ExpressCard is gone?
I inherited a project started on MC5 that I can only review on my MacBook (2.53 Intel Core 2 Duo) without an ExpressCard. I wanted to ask if anyone out there is running MC on such a MacBook since this trial run is sort of working better than I expected. (without my Mojo SDI)
I had assumed that one need the ExpressCard slot for storage to keep the built-in firewire port free for a (required?) Mojo. Maybe I’m naive but I was shocked when I reconnected to the media* from card directories on a client supplied USB2 drive, that the Seq played just fine! All I set out to do was open and reference it in order to start over again on FCP (6.06) running on my G5 ppc tower. As for non-footage material I was able to batch re-import pdf’s (to a fw800 drive) at DNxHD145 HA1080p.
The bottom line is, can I edit with this project as long as I’m not asking the MacBook system (without Mojo) to output to a HD display? BTW like so many jobs lately the deliverables are all SD but was shot in HD. (*In this case XDcam EX 35Mbits 1080p/29.97 & DVCpro HD 720p/60)
Even if the answer is yes, I’ll admit I’m nervous about making my maiden voyage with someone else’s project on MC5, on a laptop with a new client. But it might beat starting all over on FCP.
Thanks for any input,
Paul
