MC 8 LUT Workflow
I’m working on MC 8 with Alexa Prores footage which is being linked AMA and transcoded to dnx36 for the offline edit. In the field they have been adding custom LUTs and applying to the footage as they’re shooting. We have loaded the custom LUTs on the Avids here and can apply them and use them through the source settings which is great.
However, we were hoping that when AMA’d we’d be able to see what LUT was applied in the field so we can then apply it before transcoding. In the metadata for the color transformation, the only LUT info that’s showing up is the “ARRI ALEXA LogC to REC709” even though this is not what is being used in the field. It doesn’t seem to show the correct color transformation/LUT metadata.
As a work around, we are able to use this program https://itunes.apple.com/ug/app/clip-metaview/id424583133?mt=12 to check what LUT was applied in the field but this creates another step which is time consuming with the amount of files that we have to bring it. Is there a way to set AVID to see this correct LUT metadata so we know what LUT to apply to the footage?

Only the Amira puts its LUT and ASC CDL as metadata or baked in while shooting and defined in the ALE. If production is applying additional LUTs in the field, those can be applied by importing them and either replacing your default LogC to Rc709 LUT or concatenated with LogC to Rec709 + additional LUT.
