MC 5 to MC 4?

Two versions on one system is a recipe for trouble (that goes for any program). Especially since both version of Media Composer are qualified for different OSs. I think MC4 is compatible with OSX 10.6.2 and MC 5 is qualified with 10.6.3

I believe you can bring bins back and forth, as long as you aren’t transferring a bin dependent on a feature of the newer version (like bringing in AMA footage into a Pre MC4 system)

Sorry, I meant more in terms of only running 4, not both, and licensing.

You’re talking about buying Media Composer 5, but then installing Media Composer 4. I believe a dongle that is licensed for MC5 will run fine with MC4, but I’m not sure if MC5 comes with a dongle, as I thought they were phasing out the dongles. I used a dongle for my copy of MC5, but that’s because I upgraded since version 3.

I have MC 3 on two separate computers, I use them at different time by moving my dongle to one computer to the other.

I just purchased MC5 upgrade and want to do the install where I dont need to use a dongle…

Can someone tell me if installing the upgrade on just one of my systems will deactivate the MC3 on my other system?

I need to upgrade to MC5 on one to test it out, and keep the MC3 w/ dongle on my other to finish a project I am in the middle of.

Is this possible?

If you only have one dongle, then your best bet is to upgrade to MC5 and run the 30-day trial.

Once you upgrade to a full software license, your dongle will be “burned” and will no longer activate your old systems.

Once you get MC5 installed on all systems, the software license can be moved around pretty easily via de-activate/activate process – as long as you have internet connections on all systems. Of course, only one system can be activated at a time, just like with the dongle.
